Facial Fat Grafting
Use Your Body's Own Fat to Replace Lost Volume in Austin
Fat grafting is a non-surgical technique that helps restore volume to the face that's been lost due to age. Fat grafting at Austin Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery uses your own natural fat, typically harvested from the abdomen or thighs, to replace volume deficits in the face, breast, buttocks and other areas.
Fat grafting can be an extremely effective facial rejuvenation tool to restore youthful contour to the cheeks, under the eye or along the jawline, or used in conjunction with other cosmetic surgery procedures.

During your fat grafting procedure, our surgeons remove a very small amount of fat from your flanks, thigh or abdomen. The fat is then purified and artistically transferred into the areas of the face or body that need added volume. In their practice, Dr. Fisher and Dr. Kurtovic use gentle fat harvest and research-proven purification methods and transfers the fat using a microdroplet technique in multiple layers and directions to three-dimensionally fill the space. This provides the grafted fat with increased blood supply, optimizing graft survival. As a result, there is optimal precision and control of the final aesthetic contour in the area where the fat is grafted.

As a research fellow at the McGowan Institute of Regenerative Medicine, Dr. Fisher spent a year studying tissue engineering, stem cell therapies and fat grafting processes in soft tissue reconstructions of the face and body. Her publication examined established techniques related to optimizing fat harvest and purification so that there is a consistently high rate of tissue and stem cell survival post-transfer. There is clinical scientific evidence that there is a stem cell response in the treated area that vastly improves both skin texture and tone. This is clinically useful in areas with a history of radiation injury, such as after cancer treatment.
Other available non-surgical treatments for contouring the face besides fat grafting include BOTOX® Cosmetic; dermal fillers such as JUVÉDERM®, RADIESSE® and Belotero® for volume; and Kybella® for fat reduction.
