Addressing Some of the Earliest Signs of Aging in Austin, TX
Heredity, significant weight loss, and a history of sun exposure are all factors that can have an adverse effect on your neck, contributing to the problem of loose, hanging skin. These signs of aging can appear in advance of any similar changes to the face, creating an imbalanced look that can be corrected with a neck lift. Austin, TX plastic surgeon Christine Fisher MD uses several techniques to restore a smooth, youthful contour to patients' neck and jawline.
Patients not yet ready for a surgical solution may consider the SkinTyte™ laser to tighten lax skin at the neck in conjunction with Sciton Halo™ laser resurfacing to treat sun-damaged skin. These non-invasive treatments work together to improve facial and neck contours, as well as correct sun damage, fine lines, redness, hyperpigmentation and large pores. Dramatic and lasting improvements can be achieved in days with little to no downtime.

If your concerns include double chin, the injectable Kybella® could be for you. Kybella® is the only non-surgical treatment approved by the FDA for treating fullness under the chin. It causes the rapid destruction and absorption of fat, leaving a firm jawline without the necessary recovery time of surgical options, such as liposuction or neck lift surgery. Patients typically require at least two treatments before seeing results, which can be done every six weeks. There is significant swelling of the treated area after the Kybella® injection that lasts for up to a week. After two treatments, the fat deposits below the chin will be reduced in volume and the jawline will show a more youthful definition.

For patients desiring a surgical solution, Dr. Fisher may perform neck lift surgery. During a neck lift surgery, Dr. Fisher makes short incisions behind the ear and occasionally inside the front of the ear. Specifics depend on the patient. She then surgically tightens the muscles in the neck, removes excess fat with focused liposuction, and trims excess skin, resulting in a defined, youthful jawline and angle of the neck. The neck lift procedure may be performed alone or in conjunction with a facelift. For young patients with good dermal quality and localized fat under the chin, liposuction alone may be an option. Patients wear a compression garment for one week day and night and for three additional weeks just at night. Some bruising and signs of healing may be visible for 10 to 14 days after surgery.
