The aging process can leave many of us with telltale lines long before we are ready for them. While surgery is an option for turning back the clock, not everyone wants to commit to the time and potential discomfort that commonly accompanies a surgical procedure. One of the most requested options available today is injectable “wrinkle relaxers,” the most famous of which is BOTOX® Cosmetic. Gone are the days of looking “frozen” with this treatment. Advances in injection techniques means that our expert injectors are now able to smooth the look of wrinkles without interfering with your natural expressions. Each treatment is tailored to the unique needs of each of our patients. Give our office a call today at 512-815-0123 to find out if this procedure is right for you.
Nonsurgical Facial Rejuvenation in Austin
As much as we prize a calm and stress-free appearance, forehead wrinkles, eye creases and furrowed brows that form over time can create seemingly permanent expressions of worry, fatigue or even anger. Women and men who want to convey more relaxed, rested and positive facial expression can find help in BOTOX® Cosmetic or its alternative, Dysport®. Dr. Christine Fisher and her team use both these formulations to provide her patients with the cosmetic enhancement that suits their needs.
What does Botox Address?
BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport® are specifically designed to reduce the appearance of dynamic wrinkles, which form due to cumulative facial muscle activity. Repeated contractions etch facial lines into the dermis over time so that they are visible even when the muscles are relaxed. When injected with one of these “wrinkle relaxers,” the targeted muscles relax and the skin smooths out to reduce the appearance of dynamic wrinkles for up to several months at a time. This relaxation process can contribute to a younger, refreshed appearance without the need for incisions or anesthesia.
The FDA has approved both BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport® for treating the following aging concerns:
- Moderate to severe lines between the eyebrows (known as glabellar lines)
- Crow’s feet (known as lateral canthal lines)
- Forehead lines that form horizontally across the upper face
We can also use it to temporarily address a “gummy smile,” chin wrinkles and other facial cosmetic issues. Our staff will assess your aging symptoms to determine whether this is the best treatment choice for you.
Who Administers Botox in Austin?
We have a team of qualified BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport® professional injectors in our office to ensure all our patients can receive their treatments at a time convenient for them. Dr. Fisher and our physician assistant Sandy Lanier have the specialized training and experience necessary to provide our patients with the highest level of care and the best possible results. Set up your appointment with any of these professionals at our office today.
What to Expect from a Botox Treatment
Each Botox Cosmetic session begins with a consultation, giving you an opportunity to clearly communicate your goals and ask questions you may have about Botox and Dysport, facial wrinkles and the range of treatments available. Prior to your procedure, we will review your relevant medical and skincare history, as safety is always our priority. Please note it is recommended that patients refrain from ibuprofen and similar anti-inflammatories for one week in anticipation of their treatment.
If Botox is determined to be the best course, the injections will be made with precision based on the personal treatment plan discussed. Your injector will use a fine needle to administer the medication to minimize discomfort. Some patients report that the injections feel like a slight pinch, but anesthetic is not necessary. The entire process should last no longer than 15 minutes, and you will be able to resume work or other activities immediately after leaving our office.
Botox Aftercare and Results
While patients often experience some degree of post-injection swelling or bruising, no recuperation time is required after this nonsurgical procedure. Side effects are generally short-lived and can be easily concealed underneath makeup. Discomfort is minimal and will not prohibit you from your daily routine.
Patients typically begin to notice results within 48 hours after their session, with the full benefit appearing after about one week. Effects can last up to four months, after which regular muscle activity returns and the wrinkles become more pronounced again. At that time, you can schedule another Botox session to maintain your more youthful appearance over the long term. Some patients find that by planning regular treatments, they can begin to extend the time between injections as the muscles seem to “train” to relax for a more extended period.
The Professional Botox Difference
While Botox is one of the most commonly performed cosmetic procedures today, not all people injecting Botox are qualified to offer the same standard of care to get the best possible results. To become an expert injector at Dr. Fisher’s medspa requires advanced medical training and an artistic eye combined with an understanding of the facial anatomy and a significant amount of specialized training. The training and experience behind each Botox injection performed at Christine Fisher MD serve to maximize natural-looking results. In-depth knowledge of underlying facial structures allows your injector to work with precision and deliver natural-looking results that smooth out the targeted lines and wrinkles while preserving your ability to make your normal range of facial expressions. You will still look like you—just refreshed and more youthful.
Botox as Part of a Comprehensive Approach
As useful as injectable treatments like BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport® can be, they represent just one aspect of an overall, long-term nonsurgical facial care plan that can be developed to accommodate your unique issues as they arise. Your features and cosmetic goals will be assessed during your consultation, which may lead to the recommendation of a different procedure or a combination of treatments intended to help rejuvenate your face now as well as prepare for future aging symptoms.
Since our faces change with time, our nonsurgical treatment programs are entirely adaptable. BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport® may be advised to treat dynamic wrinkles, while dermal fillers are preferred for addressing static lines and volume loss. The effects of fillers and BOTOX® Cosmetic or Dysport® can also be combined for a “nonsurgical facelift,” which provides temporary rejuvenation results for four to six months without incisions or sutures.
Chemical and laser peels remove the outermost dermal layers to smooth the skin’s texture and even its tone to reveal more youthful skin underneath, while microneedling and laser resurfacing stimulate new collagen production to give a naturally youthful look that’s long lasting. Adding platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to your microneedling and laser resurfacing procedures means topically applying your own plasma cells and platelets that release growth factors, which combines an increase in collagen production with an acceleration of your body’s healing process to enhance results further. While a single treatment can yield excellent results, a series of treatment sessions offers an even more dramatic outcome in some cases.
Patients seeking a longer-lasting solution to deep forehead lines may also consider a surgical brow lift, which involves repositioning of underlying tissue and tightening of the skin to smooth away wrinkles. An eyelid lift can help to further revitalize the upper half of the face by helping to restore a naturally alert expression. While these procedures involve the use of anesthesia and incisions, as well as a recovery process, the results are dramatic and last for many years.
Dr. Christine Fisher and her team are happy to discuss all these anti-aging options with patients who may want to restore their youthful appearance but are not sure what approach to take.
