IPL and Laser Resurfacing Treatments
Halo™, BBL, and Laser Peels in Austin, TX
The surface of the skin is where many signs of aging and sun damage appear. Laser treatments for sun spots and fractional resurfacing of the skin can give you a healthy, more youthful look. There are several intense pulsed light (IPL) and laser resurfacing treatments available from Austin's Christine Fisher MD medspa. Our experienced aesthetic medical providers will work with each patient individually to determine the ideal treatment based on skin type, conditions to be addressed, and the desired end result.
Halo™ is the world's first hybrid fractional laser system. Easy to use with precise and safe settings, the Halo™ laser offers effective treatment for multiple skin conditions, such as:
- Sun damage
- Dyschromia (melanin-based pigmentation disorder)
- Signs of aging
- Enlarged pores
- Appearance of fine lines
- Textural changes in the skin
- Uneven skin tone
- Rosacea (redness)
Halo™ acts like a "laser microneedling" treatment by evenly depositing collagen, eliminating fine lines, erasing sun damage, and smoothing the skin, all with minimal downtime. The addition of platelet pich plasma (PRP) topically further accelerates healing by adding your own growth factors to the skin.
In the past, it would take five to six treatments with lasers to achieve the same effects the Halo™ can now produce in one to two treatments. The Halo™ can be used on most skin types and to erase sun damage in different areas of the body, including the face, neck, chest, arms, and legs.
The Halo™ combines ablative and non-ablative wavelengths. Because it is a fractionated laser, it allows the skin to heal quickly, maximizing clinical results and minimizing downtime. Ablative fractional resurfacing uses a deep laser in a dot matrix- like pattern to treat tissue with less thermal injury, allowing it to address textural issues, scarring, and pores and yet have a quick recovery. The non-ablative fractional resurfacing treatment causes pinpoint spots of tissue coagulation, allowing it to treat deeper sun damage and dermal pigment changes, as well as stimulate collagen development to tighten the skin.
Your Halo™ Experience
At our state-of-the-art plastic surgery center and medspa, you are in experienced and caring hands that will guide you through your Halo™ experience. You will start with a complimentary VISIA facial skin analysis, which will analyze your skin for redness, UV damage, brown spots, wrinkles, texture, and pores. VISIA uses the world's largest skin feature database to objectively identify the features of facial aging and grade your skin relative to others of the same age and skin type.
On the day of treatment, numbing cream will be applied to the area being treated. The numbing agent will be applied one hour prior to the procedure, then again 30 minutes before the procedure. For most patients, this will be all that is needed for a comfortable treatment. Light sedation is available during the treatment with Pro-Nox nitrous oxide (laughing gas) anesthesia. The Halo™ resurfacing laser will treat most areas in 30 minutes or less. Afterward, the skin will have a pink appearance, such as after sun exposure.

Recovery occurs in stages. On day one, redness and swelling are normal and expected. On day two or three, you will notice evenly spaced, tiny dark spots and a bronzed appearance develop. Because the treatment is in a dot-matrix pattern, moisturizers and sunblock can be applied and you can engage in normal activities. During this time, your skin will have a sandpaper texture and begin to flake and peel. The peeling process can take up to a week and should be allowed to happen naturally without rubbing or picking at the areas. Applying moisturizer generously during this period should reduce itching and dryness.
Using Platelet-Rich Plasma to Increase Results and Minimize Downtime After Halo™
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is an autologous concentrated preparation of platelets and their associated growth factors in a small volume of your plasma. When your platelets are activated, they release growth factors and other molecules that are very beneficial in healing and reducing inflammation. These growth factors also increase collagen production. Adding topical PRP after your Halo™ treatment will not only minimize your downtime by accelerating healing; it will also improve your results by stimulating more collagen.
Broad Band Light (BBL)
Using an advanced form of intense pulsed light (IPL), broad band bight (BBL) treatments are a medical-grade laser treatment that is designed to treat a range of cosmetic problems and conditions by using light in a variety of wavelengths. The medspa at Christine Fisher MD uses two IPL/BBL devices from manufacturer Sciton: Forever Young™ BBL and Forever Clear™ BBL.
Forever Young™ BBL
Forever Young™ BBL is considered a preventive treatment, ideal for reducing the appearance of:
- age spots
- visible blood vessels
Forever Young™ BBL uses an advanced form of IPL to target specific skin problems. As IPL enters the skin, it impacts the surface itself where imperfections are seen, causing lesions to flake away and spider veins to collapse. This is because the IPL is converted into heat as it is absorbed by areas with more pigment, by spider veins, and by red blotchy areas.
The IPL also travels into deeper layers where it begins to work on a molecular level. Studies have shown that this IPL treatment actually changes the expression of aging-associated genes for long-term effects that result in clearer and smoother skin.

Forever Clear™ BBL
Forever Clear™ BBL has a singular focus: acne. The common skin problem is caused by the body's reaction to bacteria that become trapped in plugged follicles, so dealing with the bacteria is a significant first step in getting clearer skin. As the most powerful IPL device available for skin treatments, Forever Clear BBL™ beams blue light deep into the pores to kill the bacteria there. Next, pulses of yellow light reduce both inflammation and redness in the skin. Finally, infrared light encourages healing to further clear the skin and provide a smoother look on the surface.
Known for its safety profile and effectiveness, the Contour TRL™ laser peel is ideal for addressing lines, pigmentation irregularities, and other signs of sun and environmental damage. The device is remarkably precise, allowing the operator to control energy delivery for ideal, customized results. Contour TRL™ is ideal for treating:
- severe wrinkles and enlarged pores
- sun spots
- actinic keratoses (pre-cancerous lesions)
- poor skin texture and tone
Because of the precision possible with Contour TRL™, it can be used around the mouth and even the eyes—a benefit not recommended for other lasers.
A superficial laser peel painlessly removes the outer epidermis to smooth and brighten the skin. This is an excellent pre-event peel as recovery is short—just a few days.
A single deep laser peel of about 15 to 50 minutes is usually enough to generate more transformative results. After a few days of healing, during which your skin will look and feel like it has been sunburned, the outermost layer of skin will re-grow for a smoother look. Laser peels also trigger fresh collagen production, which will continue for months and further improve results.
