Remove Signs of Aging and Damage in Austin, TX

Since the outermost layers of skin are where many fine lines, signs of sun damage, and numerous other cosmetic problems are seen, removing these layers is a simple and effective way to rejuvenate the entire face. A chemical peel from Austin's Christine Fisher MD is a nonsurgical method that exfoliates away dead skin cells to reveal younger, clearer skin and stimulates the natural healing processes that continue to revitalize the area long after the treatment is done.

A range of chemical peels is available—superficial, medium, and deep—but all of them work in generally the same way: A carefully prepared solution is applied to the skin, then removed after an appropriate amount of time has passed—which depends on the peel being used. These will cause the outermost layer of skin to exfoliate and be replaced with new epidermis. In the hours and days after a session, the treated skin will begin to flake and peel to reveal fresher, smoother, brighter skin. This skin will appear red and feel tender at first, as well as be particularly sensitive to sunlight, so precautions should be taken to avoid exposure to ultraviolet radiation. Deeper peels stimulate a greater effect, and in some cases can also smooth away fine lines by tightening skin due to increased collagen production in the dermis and subcutaneous tissue.

Here are some of the peels available at our medspa:

Jessner Chemical Peel

The Jessner Chemical Peel uses a full-strength blend of lactic acid, salicylic acid, and resorcinol that breaks up the bonds that hold dead skin cells together to chemically exfoliate the skin for a softer feel and brighter appearance. After two days of dryness, a light flaking of the skin begins and lasts for about three days, revealing fresh skin. This treatment is ideal for darker skin types, oily and acne-prone skin, and for anyone looking for an advanced exfoliation treatment with little down time.

TCA Chemical Peel

In a TCA Chemical peel, trichloracetic acid is used for a deeper level of exfoliation to treat stubborn aging concerns for dramatic results. After two to three days of dry, tight skin, sheet peeling occurs for three to six days. The peeling process reveals smoother, brighter, and more even-toned skin, and diminishes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. This treatment is ideal for those who want to address sun damage, hyperpigmentation, or acne scars.

Similar results are available from laser skin resurfacing treatments. A "laser peel" is an erbium laser resurfacing treatment that painlessly removes the outermost 20 to 100 microns of epidermis. Deeper treatments are available to reduce visible brown spots, age spots and enlarged capillaries. Another laser treatment called the Halo creates a dramatic improvement with a combination of brightening and skin tightening to erase sun damage. This uses a fractional erbium laser to deeply treat the skin with minimal downtime. A consultation with the Christine Fisher MD team can help patients determine which option is best for them.
